The Social Reality Challenge

You’ve had a long day at work.  You get home, turn on the computer and escape into the lives of others.  

How was their day?  Did they get the promotion at work?  Did their kid finally go #2 all on his own?  Let’s see those vacation pics!  

You may even share something about yourself.  

Here’s what’s for dinner.  Look what my dog did today when I was gone!  Boy, I can’t wait til Friday, we’re gonna get wasted!!!

 It’s all fine to share our lives and see what that person from middle school is up to (granted they live 3 miles away from you and you have not seen them in 15 years.)  My question is, how come we don’t share anything that’s real?

Student gets arrested for science experiement

 

Last may a student at Bartow High School in Florida made a mistake.  She was making a volcano for her science class.  Kids being kids, she was pressured into showing others on the playground how it works.  The method for this experiment was to mix toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum  foil together for the reaction.  This was a suggestion from a friend.  Now, true this could create the volcano effect she was looking for however what she didn’t know at the time is it also a bomb recipe.  Called The Works Bomb” taking these items together in a closed bottle can cause an explosion.   Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome to umadyet’s Week in review 04/28/2014

Another week in the books.  I’ve noticed a certain trend this week.  It’s been with us for decades.  RACISM.  Some say we have come a long way and some say we have a long road ahead.  I wonder if there is a fine line between racism and overactive political correctness.  I’ve noticed it in the news quite a bit this week.  Is it fabricated, private made public or something else?  Let’s jump right in and find out..  Here are a few articles that I think deserve a little more thought.

Welcome to umadyet’s Week in review 04/20/2014

One thing I have started to notice since starting this section is how many of the stories relate to schools.  In the one place where we are shaping the future generation all this madness keeps popping up.  Is it that schools are in such focus from our media or is there something more to it?  I have nothing but respect for our teachers, however the system, administration and lawyers involved seen to be messing it up.  So here we go.
